When my daughter Emma was young I was very keen to teach her to put away and look after her things. (Not being a naturally tidy person myself).
The solution was colourful drawstring bags made for all of her books, toys, swimming gear, etc.
The result was no more searching for library books or swimming gear. Togs and towel went straight from washing machine to swimming bag which lived on a hook in the laundry.
